General

If I clip the sensor over one of my electrical appliance cables will it measure usage of that appliance?
The sensor is unable to measure the current flow when clipped around the lead of any household appliance as the live and neutral cancel each other out resulting in a 0 reading. Also no reading can be achieved by clipping the sensor over a twin core cable sometimes used in the wiring in the distribution boards.

Should I turn it off when I go on holiday?

You could do, but you may find it interesting to see the power you are using/wasting when the house is left unoccupied and theoretically when it should be using virtually nothing.

How do I keep my monitor clean?
Clean it with a slightly damp sponge or cloth, do not immerse in water.

Can I view historical data from previous months?
Yes your Eco-Eye stores 32 months of historical data for further analysis. In addition if the Wi-Eye is used with the monitor the historical data can be downloaded onto a computer and analyzed with additional energy software programs.

Can I use a wireless electricity monitor to detect faulty appliances?
Yes, watch the monitor when different appliances are turned on and off, check the consumption against the manufacturer’s specification, it may differ slightly and older machines are almost certain to use more. There will come a time when the appliance is using far more than it should and replacement should be considered.

Can I use the reading from my monitor to challenge the bill from my Electricity supplier?
No. Wireless electricity monitors are purely awareness tools designed to stimulate behavioural change in electricity usage and do not replace the more accurate electricity meter installed by the municipality.
