Frequently Asked Questions
What are Wireless Electricity Monitors?
A wireless electricity monitor is a device that enables a household / business to monitor in real time the amount of electricity they are using and how much it costs. They can also show the amount of greenhouse gas emissions (CO2) produced by your utility supplier as a result of the energy being used.
How do Wireless Electricity Monitors Work?
Wireless electricity monitors measure the electrical current flowing into your house using a Current Transformer Sensor (CT). The CT is connected to a transmitter that sends the data to a display unit using a wireless signal. The display unit calculates and displays the cost, energy and the carbon footprint of the electricity being used.

What is Voltage and Current?
Voltage (volts) is the measure of electrical potential and Current (amps) signifies the amount of electricity flowing through the wires. Both volts & amps are necessary to provide electricity for your household appliances.
• Does the voltage get measured?
No. The voltage is nominally fixed in accordance with country regulations and these voltage settings can be selected on the display.
• What voltage should I be selecting for South Africa?
In South Africa our electricity supply is 220V - 240V. We recommend you use an ave. of 230V.
• What is power?
Power is the product of the Voltage x Current, and is measured in Watts. A watt is the amount of energy being transferred to or from somewhere each second.
• What is a kilowatt (kW)?
A kilowatt is 1000 watts.
• What is a Kilowatt hour (kWh)
• A kilowatt hour is equivalent to 1000 watts being used for the duration of 1 hour. For example, operating 10 standard 100W Light Bulbs at the same time for one hour.
How much energy can be saved using a Wireless Electricity Monitor?
A recent study in the UK found that the group with monitors reduced their consumption by an average of 9% (the range was 6% to 15%). Follow the included energy saving tips and savings up to 20% can be achieved.
Can I use a different Currency Symbol?
Most electricity monitors support £, $ & € currency symbols and can be configured by the user. The Eco-Eye includes an international currency symbol for use in South Africa and other countries that do not use the £, $ & €.
What Product Warranty/Guarantee comes with the Wireless Electricity Monitor?
Most manufacturers offer a 12 month product warranty from the date of purchase.
